About Rachel

Hey there, I'm Rachel.

What inspires one to change?

Elizabeth Gilbert stated it beautifully in a conversation with Oprah Winfrey: “You usually don’t choose change until the status quo is scarier than the transformation.” I have found this to be true about myself.

A few years ago, I finally verbalized what my mind and soul had been screaming at me for years: enough with the status quo.

Enough with an inauthentic {i.e. soul-depleting} lifestyle and interactions.

Enough with pretty, prescriptive answers for the hard moments or wounds of the past.

It was time to grow in self-discovery and figure out who I am in relation to God and my place in this world.

This is the place where I write about the journey of eliminating the status quo, embarking upon self-discovery and soulwork, and embracing more of the wild love of God—the God who uses jacked up people who’ve gotten themselves in jacked up situations in beautiful and redeeming ways.

If you can relate, I invite you into the trenches with me.

7 ways I'm savoring freedom + living ablaze

  • I married my favorite Army vet 50 days after we met in a restaurant in Honolulu. We just celebrated 10 years of marriage.
  • I’m what you’d call an “old soul.” Give me Sinatra and Big Band music or a Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn flick over modern-day music or movies any day.
  • I was once wild and reckless in the worst sense of the word, and probably should be dead given some of the crazy choices I made. Nowadays, my rebellious streak best manifests itself by resisting complacency and finding ways to be unconventional in my seemingly conventional surroundings.
  • I believe transformation takes place through the Holy Spirit and through inspiration—not through judgement. We can’t criticize and judge ourselves nor others and expect movement toward change.
  • I believe in the power of stories and in legacies. My gram has one of the greatest stories of loss and redemption; her legacy is not any one thing she left me, but rather what she left in me and in others. We can leave something in others every single day.
  • The Enneagram is changing my life and my relationships for the better. This book started it all for me

  • These two make my heart sing.
